Can I simply say such a alleviation to find someone who really understands just what they may be sharing on the web. You actually know how to bring a problem to light and make it critical. Even more people should learn this and know this particular section of the story. I cannot believe you are not very popular because you clearly have the gift.

I don't feel that I should just criticize and not make any suggestions. For instance, rather than implementing knee-jerk policies -- ie, removing shoes after the attempted "shoe bomber" and backscatter machines that can see inside your skivvies after the attempted "underwear bomber" -- I believe that the US government should actually perform some studies on what works and what doesn't.

Israel is in a very different situation, but they have adopted an evidence-based practice that has proven to be extremely effective at ensuring safe air travel. I'm not saying that adopting Israel's approach is the solution, but rather than spending millions on these backscatter machines that have never been shown to be safe or effective (and frankly, appear to add little actual security), we could have spent a portion of that money looking at multiple options and choosing the approaches that actually effective. I fear that in their haste to look like they were taking action to stem the terrorist thread, politicans have spent lots of money on an ineffective solution that creates a greater threat.

God, yeah. I have this problem all the time and was ranting about it at work recently. Many co-workers chimed in, agreeing. You are definitely not alone.

Anyone else see the irony in the Apple/Amazon relationship?

Apple in 2006 - "Songs cost 99 cents!"
Amazon in 2007 - "Hey music publishers, work with us and we will give you flexible pricing!"

Amazon in 2009 - "Books cost $9.99!"
Apple in 2010 - "Hey book publishers, work with us and we will give you flexible pricing!"

Here I go, replying to myself again. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that what I call the 90/10 rule is known by many names. One good place to start is by looking at the Pareto Principle.

Talk about conceited, I'm even responding to myself. Anyway, there is a lot of "me, me, me" in that first post. Look at it -- there are at least 24 "I"s and "me"s in that post. Self-serve much?
